NAMTA: Programs
Here is a list of specific programs for the year 2007-2008
Ongoing Programs:
Performance Auditions. This year the Performance
Auditions will be held in the Wilson Music Building at Belmont University
on Saturday, March 29, 2008 beginning at 8:00 am. The Performance
Auditions Coordinator is Dan Landes. Applications are available in
the NAMTA Directory and should be submitted to Elizabeth Cormier.
Deadline for submitting the application: postmarked by February 10,
2008.
The Performance Auditions are specifically a NAMTA
event. Applicants have to pass the Theory Auditions (see below) first.
All levels K - 12 are eligible by grade. The application form is printed
in the NAMTA Directory. Those that get a superior rating are eligible
for three things: (1) can play in the YAAA, (2) can participate in
the state auditions, (3) can play in the Honors Recital in the Spring.
Theory Auditions: This year the Theory Auditions
will be held in the Wilson Music Building at Belmont University on
Saturday, January 26, 2008. Preliminary to the Performance Auditions
(see above), it is a PREREQUISITE test for the Performance Auditions.
Participants have to have a COMBINED score of 70 to be eligible for
the state auditions. Eight levels; eight sections. Students choose
any FOUR sections and teachers choose the levels. The Theory Audition
Chair is Susan Smith. Applications are available in the NAMTA Directory
and should be submitted to Susan Smith. Deadline for submitting the
application: postmarked by December 10, 2007,
Honors Recitals: Traditionally held at David Lipscomb
University in late April (k-8th grade) and early May (9-12th grade).
Participants must earn a "superior" rating on both the Performance
and Theory Auditions (see above). Certificates are presented to participants.
The High School Honors Recital is scheduled for Sunday afternoon,
April __, 2008 beginning at 2:00 p.m. The K-8 Honors Recital is scheduled
for Sunday afternoon, April 20, 2008 beginning at 2:00 p.m. Questions
should be directed to the Student Recitals Chair, Carole Batson
Young Artists Achievement Awards Competition (YAAA): Has
traditionally been held at Fisk University in April. Students qualify
by receiving a "superior" rating in the NAMTA Theory Auditions
(see above) and by passing the Theory Test. NAMTA sponsors this event
for solo piano, instrumental, and vocal students to provide incentive
and encouragement for the serious music student. Winners in each category
will receive a cash award of $50.00. There is a fee of $5.00 to participate.
The event is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, April 19, 2008 in the
Harris Music Building at Fisk University beginning at 8:30 a.m. Questions
should be directed to the YAAA co-chairs, Debra Nelson and Carol Warren.
Pianorama: Held in odd years, Pianorama showcases
over 100 young pianists and approximately 25 teachers performing in
piano ensembles under the direction of a skilled conductor. This year
the event is scheduled in the Massey Performing Arts Center at Belmont
University the weekend of December 7-9. The students are from the
studios of NAMTA and Piano Guild teachers. Funds raised through participation
in this event are used to support the Young Artists Achievement Awards
(YAAA) -- see above.. There is a fee of $10:00 to participate. The
application can be found in the NAMTA Directory and should be mailed
to the PianoRama Chair, Sallye Zirangue.
Winterfest: An opportunity for area students to
perform one or two memorized pieces in a noncompetitive setting. This
year the event is scheduled at the Blair School of Music on January
26, 2008. Deadline for application is December 31, 2007. Application
and 1uestions should be directed to Jama Reagan.

Monthly Meeting Programs/Workshops 2007:
NAMTA meets on the 1st Friday of every month at 10:00 a.m. in the Steinway
Gallery in Nashville. Here is a list of programs/workshops for 2007-2008:

November 2, 2007: TBA. The meeting date for this month is the FIRST
Friday instead of the 2nd Friday.
December, 2007 -- no scheduled meeting. PianoRama is scheduled for

Jan. 26
February, 2008: TBA. Winterfest, Sat., Feb. 2.

a Variety of Instruments." Useful approaches and examples of ensemble
music that are effective in working with secondary music students.

(?) piano ensembles. The students are from the studios of NAMTA and
