NAMTA: Programs

Here is a list of specific programs for the year 2008-2009

Ongoing Programs:

Performance Auditions. This year the Performance Auditions will be held in the Wilson Music Building at Belmont University on Saturday, March 14, 2008 beginning at 8:00 am. The Performance Auditions Coordinator is Dan Landes. Applications are available in the NAMTA Directory and should be submitted to Elizabeth Cormier. Deadline for submitting the application: postmarked by February 7, 2009.

The Performance Auditions are specifically a NAMTA event. Applicants have to pass the Theory Auditions (see below) first. All levels K - 12 are eligible by grade. The application form is printed in the NAMTA Directory. Those that get a superior rating are eligible for three things: (1) can play in the YAAA, (2) can participate in the state auditions, (3) can play in the Honors Recital in the Spring.

Theory Tests: This year the Theory Auditions will be held in the Wilson Music Building at Belmont University on Saturday, February 7, 2009. Preliminary to the Performance Auditions (see above), it is a PREREQUISITE test for the Performance Auditions. Participants have to have a COMBINED score of 70 to be eligible for the state auditions. Eight levels; eight sections. Students choose any FOUR sections and teachers choose the levels. The Theory Audition Chair is Susan Smith. Applications are available in the NAMTA Directory and should be submitted to Susan Smith. Deadline for submitting the application: postmarked by January 10, 2009

Honors Recitals: Traditionally held at David Lipscomb University in late April (k-8th grade) and early May (9-12th grade). Participants must earn a "superior" rating on both the Performance and Theory Auditions (see above). Certificates are presented to participants. Dates for the Honors Recitals will be posted later. Questions should be directed to the Student Recitals Chair, Carole Batson

Young Artists Achievement Awards Competition (YAAA): Has traditionally been held at Fisk University in April. Students qualify by receiving a "superior" rating in the NAMTA Theory Auditions (see above) and by passing the Theory Test. NAMTA sponsors this event for solo piano, instrumental, and vocal students to provide incentive and encouragement for the serious music student. Winners in each category will receive a cash award of $50.00. There is a fee of $15.00 to participate. The date for the next YAAA event will be posted later. Questions should be directed to the YAAA co-chairs, Debra Nelson and Carol Warren.

Pianorama: Held in odd years, Pianorama showcases approx. 200 young pianists and 25 teachers performing in piano ensembles under the direction of a skilled conductor. The students are from the studios of NAMTA and the Piano Guild. Funds raised through participation in this event are used to support the Young Artists Achievement Awards (YAAA) -- see above. The application can be found in the NAMTA Directory and should be mailed to the PianoRama Chair, Sallye Zeringue

Winterfest: An opportunity for area students to perform one or two memorized pieces in a noncompetitive setting. This year the event is scheduled at the Blair School of Music on February 14, 2009. Time limits have been placed on participants: K-6 = 10 minutes; 7-12 = 10 minutes. Deadline for application is December 30, 2008. The application fee is $10.00.
